The Asylum Diaries

For some time now, we have not been completely happy with the title of our first novel. Of Madness and Folly, whilst being a masterclass of dark humour, sounded a little too much like an academic journal entry to our ears. So, we renamed it. And, in the process, had a whole new cover designed as well. The book is now entitled, The Asylum Diaries and you can find it on Amazon and the bookshelf of any discerning reader with a sense of humour, an ounce of empathy and a pulse. Buy it here. Unless you've already got a copy, of course, which I can't imagine wouldn't be the case!

Book Launch: The Hypnotic Handshakes!

The Hypnotic Handshakes

'Entertaining yet instructional in nature. A very informative adventure into the world of handshake inductions; how they are constructed, how to do them, and how they work... Well worth the read.' (John Cleesattel) For many people, handshake inductions represent the epitome of hypnotic prowess. They are taken as a sign of the hypnotist's power, as well as their subject's ability to go into hypnosis quickly and easily. In this unique book, Graham Old demystifies the three main Handshake inductions - those of Richard Bandler, Dave Elman and Milton Erickson. He provides clear advice on how to execute the inductions, along with suggestions on how and why they work. You will find 5 versions of the Bandler Handshake in this book,...

The Anxiety Guide: Book Launch!

The Anxiety Guide

We are unreasonably excited to announce that our latest book - The Anxiety Guide - is now available for both kindle and paperback. We are excited for a number of reasons. Firstly, this book is the first title in our new 'Self-Help for the Rest of Us' series. That series is dear to our hearts because it pretty much encapsulates the whole idea of Plastic Spoon. Secondly, we are excited because we happen to think that it's a pretty damn good book! Not only that, but we think it also offers a unique perspective on approaching anxiety. Here is the official blurb from the Amazon page: Many books currently offering solutions to anxiety are written by experts, theorists, or former...

Self-Help for the Rest of Us

Plastic Spoon

We are very excited to announce our upcoming book series, Self-Help for the Rest of Us! This series captures the heart of what Plastic Spoon is really all about, or at least one of the three legs. To save repeating ourselves, we have summed-up that heart in the following blog post: [su_permalink id="252"][/su_permalink] Basically, if this book proves to be a bit of a duff idea, then the whole concept of Plastic Spoon needs rethinking. So, you know, no pressure! The books in this series will not answer every question you have about the issues under discussion, but they will offer suggestions that have been road-tested by people who have actually been there. We think that makes them fairly unique...

The lunatics are running… EVERYTHING!

When I first told a friend about my ideas for Plastic Spoon Books - writings for, by and about those struggling with mental health or emotional well-being - he said, "Ah, so you're suggesting that the lunatics take over the asylum?" I smiled, as I shook my head gently. "No mate, I'm suggesting that the lunatics take over the asylum and the printing press and the whole fucking media. And, I'll tell you this - they already have! It's just a question of asking which particular lunatics we want running the joint." He smiled and offered me another can. "No thanks, mate. I'll be up all night." As it happened, I was up all night. Up all night thinking about...
